asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) if he will estimate the number of former senior officers in Her Majesty's armed forces who have entered the employment of companies engaged in the manufacture of defence equipment in each of the last three years;

(2) if he will estimate how many senior civil servants in the Ministry of Defence upon retirement have entered the employment of companies engaged in the procurement of defence equipment in each of the last three years.

The following are the numbers of officers of brigadier rank and equivalent in the Armed Forces and Ministry of Defence officials of assistant secretary rank and equivalent, and above, who have applied to the Department for permission to take up appointments in the defence industry after leaving Crown service:
