HC Deb 22 March 1983 vol 39 c383W
Q32. Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Prime Minister if she will estimate the amount a family of two parents and two young children, where the family income is made up of child benefit and supplementary benefit, is able to spend on clothes in a year.

Mr. Whitelaw

I have been asked to reply.

It is for families themselves to decide, in the light of their individual circumstances and priorities, how much of their income they spend on particular items.
