§ Mr. McCrindleasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on progress towards eliminating the need for United Kingdom citizens to obtain a visa when visiting the United States of America.
§ Mr. OnslowDraft legislation was introduced in Congress last year which would have had the effect of removing the visa requirements for tourists from Britain and certain other countries. At that time, the member states of the European Community informed the Administration of their support for the proposed-change in the regulations. Unfortunately the 97th Congress concluded in December without passing the relevant Bills.
Fresh Bills have been introduced in the current Congress. We shall watch the situation closely and continue to do what we can to press for progress.
