HC Deb 04 March 1983 vol 38 cc262-3W
Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he will announce details of the 1983–84 urban aid grant settlement; and if he will make a statement.

Sir George Young

My right hon. Friend announced on 15 November—[Vol. 32, c. 19]—that total resources for the urban programme, including urban development grant, in 1983–84 would be £348 million. Final allocations to individual authorities have yet to be settled, but most partnerships and programme authorities have been notified of the likely level of resources that will be available to them.

The sum of £52 million has been set aside for the traditional urban programme. We hope to announce which projects have been approved under circular 23 shortly. Holiday projects worth £1.2 million have already been approved. My right hon. Friend announced details of the first batch of urban development grant projects, which he has approved in principle, on 15 February. —[Vol. 37, c. 161.]
