HC Deb 04 March 1983 vol 38 c251W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Prime Minister, pursuant to her answer of 25 February, Official Report, c. 563, if she will take steps to ascertain whether the origin of tinned beef purchased by Her Majesty's Government is Argentine.

The Prime Minister

As I indicated in my previous reply, all tinned beef is purchased from suppliers in this country, but its origin is not recorded. It would not be possible to establish precisely the country of origin of the meat.

However, to the best of my knowledge, no Argentine food products have been imported since the embargo was imposed last year; and any Argentine corned beef still available in Ministry of Defence stocks would have been obtained prior to the embargo.
