§ 39. Mr. Grimondasked Secretary of State for Scotland what consideration has been given to the continuation of the binary system in Scotland, in view of suggestions of amalgamations between institutions of various types in higher education.
§ Mr. YoungerMy right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science and I are considering a request that has recently been made to us by the University of Aberdeen to establish an independent inquiry to examine the possibility of a union between the university, Robert Gordon's institute of technology and Aberdeen college of education; our decision will be announced in due course. I have not received any other proposals for the amalgamation of institutions of higher education.
