§ Mr. Wigleyasked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the latest estimate for the total cost of the new Ysbyty Gwynedd district general hospital at Bangor; how this compares with the original cost; and how this difference in cost is explained in terms of (a) inflation (b) additional work to be funded by his Department and (c) additional non-essential items specified by the area health authority.
§ Mr. Stradling Thomas£32.7 million. When tenders were let in March 1976 and October 1978 the estimated cost was £20.3 million. Of the increased costs £5.56 million can be attributed to inflation and £0.132 million to additional items to be funded by the health authority.
The cost of works to be funded by the Department is £4.26 million. This figure includes both additional and remedial works.
In addition £2.5 million is attributed to claims by the main contractor for the delay.
