§ Sir Brandon Rhys Williamsasked the Prime Minister if she will institute a study of the practical implications of introducing a tax credit or basic income guarantee scheme on a revenue-neutral basis, with a view to publishing its findings and recommendations before the end of the year.
§ The Prime MinisterTax credit schemes have been the subject of considerable study by the Government and they were discussed in the Government's written evidence to the Sub-Committee of the Treasury and Civil Service Select Committee on personal income taxation and income support. I do not believe that a further study is necessary at this stage, but the Government continue to keep these ideas in mind.
