§ Mr. Higginsasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if the new standard issue telephone handset can 582W have an inductive coupler fitted to assist the hard of hearing; and if he will take steps to make British Telecom aware of the advice and assistance available from his Department in future designs of telephones which may be used by the hard of hearing.
§ Mr. NewtonI understand that some modern designs of telephones cannot be fitted with inductive couplers but close co-operation with British Telecom will continue, to ensure that it will still be possible for hearing impaired people to use the telephone.
