HC Deb 28 July 1983 vol 46 cc540-1W
Ms. Harman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many grants of citizenship were made in the period 1 April 1982 to 31 March 1983 to people who had paid (a) £70, (b) £35 and (c) £200 with their original application.

Mr. Waddington

In the period 1 April 1982 to 31 March 1983 431 certificates of registration or naturalisation were issued to applicants who had each paid £200. Seven thousand, seven hundred and thirty-six certificates of registration and 157 certificates of naturalisation were issued to applicants who had each paid £70, but this naturalisation total also includes a vary small number of applicants who had applied between 1 October 1976 and 28 February 1978 when the full naturalisation fee —payable at the time of grant—was £70.

Registration certificates were issued in respect of 1,090 fees of £35. This fee covers an application for one or more minor children, and it would entail disproportionate cost to ascertain the actual number of children registered.

Ms. Harman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many applications for naturalisation were
