asked the Secretary of State for Social Services which categories of hospital staff will have their salaries reviewed by the proposed review body looking into nurses' salaries.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The Government's consultative document on the establishment of a new review body proposed that the following categories of staff should be included:

  1. i. Nursing staff, midwives and health visitors employed in the National Health Service;
  2. ii. Physiotherapists, radiographers, remedial gymnasts, occupational therapists, orthoptists, chiropodists, dieticians, speech therapists, and related grades employed in the National Health Service.

We are now considering the comments on these proposals and it is hoped to make an announcement shortly.
