§ Mr. Alfred Morrisasked the Secretary of State for Social Services on what date he intends to bring into force part VII of the Health and Social Services and Social Security Adjudications Act 1983.
§ Mr. John PattenThe Health and Social Services and Social Security Adjudications Act 1983 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1983 (SI 1983 No. 974 (c. 26)) made on 5 July 1983 brings into force the following provisions of part VII of the Act on the dates specified as follows:
Date Section 15 August 1983 Section 20—Power of local authority to limit charge for residential accommodation 1 January 1984 Section 17—Charges for local authority services in England and Wales Section 18—Charges for local authority services in Scotland Section 19—Contributions in respect of children in care Consultations are proceeding with the local authority associations on the remaining provisions of part VII which relate to England and Wales. At present a date cannot be fixed for their implementation but we hope it will be possible to implement them around the beginning of 1984 by a subsequent commencement order.
