HL Deb 19 July 1983 vol 443 c1147WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What information they have about the pesticide Galecron produced by the Swiss firm Ciba Geigy and also marketed by the German firm Schering under the name of Fundal: whether these products have ever been used in Britain and whether they have evidence of the harmful effects of these products on human beings in other countries.

The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Lord Belstead)

Clearance was granted under the Pesticides Safety Precautions Scheme during the 1960s for limited and closely controlled experimental testing with Galecron, but clearance for commercial use was not sought and neither Galecron nor Fundal have ever been used commercially in the United Kingdom. The Government are aware of press reports from other countries about these substances, but have no further information.
