§ Mr. Shersbyasked the Secretary of State for Employment what consideration he has given to the establishment of human weight limits covering all forms of employment to reduce the incidence of back problems at work.
§ Mr. GummerThe Health and Safety Commission published a consultative document in May 1982 which contained proposals for comprehensive general regulations and guidance on the manual handling of loads at work. I understand that the commission will be giving further consideration to those proposals in the light of the many comments received from interested organisations and individuals. I shall consider the question of mandatory weight limits in the light of its considered advice.
