HC Deb 12 July 1983 vol 45 c309W
Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) how often convoys carrying nuclear weapons travel on the A38 between Exeter and Plymouth; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he is satisfied with the level of safety provision with regard to convoys carrying nuclear weapons travelling on the A38 between Exeter and Plymouth, in view of the absence of a crash barrier on the central reservation; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Stanley

It has been a long standing practice of successive Governments not to comment on the routes and means used to transport nuclear weapons. However, I wish to repeat the assurances on safety and security given by my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Defence Procurement to the hon. Member for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth (Mr. Hogg) on 6 May,—[Vol. 42, c.161.]
