§ Mr. Adleyasked the Secretary of State for Transport when he will publish the report of the committee of inquiry into pedestrian safety at level crossings appointed in November 1982 under the chairmanship of the right hon. Member for Gloucester (Mrs. Oppenheim).
§ Mr. Tom KingI am pleased to say that the report is published today and I have placed copies in the Library. I am very grateful to the committee for its work and I am sure the whole House will welcome its careful analysis of this important subject and, in particular, its findings that automatic crossings have a good pedestrian safety record. The committee's proposals for providing further pedestrian safeguards demand careful study. We will be consulting the British Railways Board, highway authorities and other interests concerned, and will then make a further statement.
