§ Mr. Murphyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will introduce a multiplier in calculating rate support grant for high rateable value authorities such as Hertfordshire.
§ Mr. WaldegraveMy hon. Friend will know, from his previous Questions, that a number of representations on this topic were considered in the context of the 1983–84 rate support grant settlement, but that it was decided not to extend the long-standing arrangements for discounting high rateable values within London. I will consider the issue again for 1984–85 but, in view of the practical difficulties involved in devising a scheme, I doubt whether it will be possible to give a more favourable response.
§ Mr. Strawasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will now deposit in the Library tables showing revised block grant allocations for individual local authorities following the publication on 4 July of the rate support grant supplementary report.
§ Mr. WaldegraveThis was done on 8 July.
