§ 32. Mr. Parryasked the Secretary of State for Transport what further progress has been made towards the reduction of lead in petrol.
§ Mrs. ChalkerSubstantial investment by the petroleum industry is under way to implement the Government's decision to reduce the maximum lead content of petrol from 0.40 grams/litre down to 0.15 grams/litre—a 62 per cent. reduction—by the end of 1985. As a result of this, total lead emissions from vehicles which averaged 7,500 tonnes per year during the 1970s will fall to an estimated 2,300 tonnes per year from 1986.
