§ Mr. Fitchasked the Secretary of State for Transport by how much the injury accident rate on roads has declined in the last 10 years.
§ Mrs. ChalkerThe overall accident rate—injury accidents per vehicle-kilometre—declined by one fifth between 1971 and 1981. However, the reduction varies with different types of road and is partly explained by a change in the mix of vehicles in use. Relevant details can be found in tables 4 and 9 of "Road Accidents Great Britain 1981", a copy of which is in the Library.
