§ Mr. Parryasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what representations he has received from organisations in social services concerning the proposed closure of the Liverpool welfare rights centre; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. NewtonI have received representations from the centre itself through one local Member. I refer the hon. Member to the reply he received from my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment on 14 December 1982—[Vol. 34, c.105]—which explains the position. I understand that since my right hon. Friend's reply, the city council has resolved to continue funding the centre, pending a report from one of its officers. Further funding of the centre through the Liverpool inner city partnership after March 1983 would be subject to approval by the Secretary of State for the Environment.
