§ 40. Mr. Neubertasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what consultations there have been in relation to the issue of the new £1 coin in April to ensure its successful introduction into the coinage.
§ Mr. HayhoeThere were extensive consultations before the design and specifications for the new £1 coin were fully approved. The Royal Mint consulted about 200 organisations representing not only the banks, bulk cash handlers and retailers, but also those concerned with the welfare of the elderly, blind and physically handicapped so that a coin could be produced which would be convenient to use and readily acceptable to all sections of526W the public. More recently there have been consultations with the banks to assess demand for the new coin and to ensure that this demand can be satisfied. The Royal Mint is in a position to meet this demand and all orders from the banks can be met in full before the date of issue.
