§ Mr. Deakinsasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the total United Kingdom butter consumption for each year since 1973; and, in each year, what proportion was subsidised, including New Zealand imports at a reduced levy.
§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithThe following figures show total United Kingdom butter consumption and the total amount of butter on which subsidy was paid in the United Kingdom—including New Zealand imports at a reduced levy—for the years 1973–82. These figures are not directly comparable since there is a time lag between payment of subsidy, or import with a reduced levy, and consumption. It is not possible therefore to say what proportion of butter consumed in any one year was subsidised.
