HC Deb 21 February 1983 vol 37 c374W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food why his Department does not permit Welsh whisky, compounded, blended and bottled in Wales, to be described as "Welsh".

Mrs. Fenner

There is nothing to prevent whisky produced in Wales being described as "Welsh" although I am not aware that whisky is being distilled in Wales at present.

Customs and Excise considers that spirit which has been compounded (for example, with the addition of herb extracts) falls outside the definition of whisky contained in the Finance Act 1969, as amended.
