§ Mr. John Garrettasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what extra funds have been made available for schools in Norfolk for software and teacher training consequent upon the microcomputers in schools programme;
(2) what extra funds have been made available for schools in the Inner London education authority area for software and teacher training consequent upon the microcomputers in schools programme.
§ Dr. BoysonNo funds are made available to local education authorities (LEAs) or schools to assist with the basic teacher training requirement, or software developments, under the Department of Industry Microcomputers in schools schemes. However, under the DES microelectronics education programme, which is now spending some £4 million per year in total, funds are made available for the development of software and to assist all LEAs grouped regionally with further teacher training and with information activities; both Norfolk and ILEA will thus have received benefit under this programme.
