HC Deb 21 February 1983 vol 37 cc296-7W
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what are the present salaries for judges and sheriffs, respectively, in Scotland; and whether there are any proposals for a review of their salaries.

Mr. Allan Stewart

The salaries currently payable to judges and sheriffs are as follows:

£
Lord President of the Court of Session 48,250
Lord Justice Clerk 45,500
Judge of the Court of Session 42,500
Sheriff Principal 29,000
Sheriff A and Sheriff B 27,750
Sheriff C 22,200

The Review Body on Top Salaries makes a report annually to the Prime Minister on the remuneration of the judiciary and the other groups within its terms of reference. It is expected to report in the usual way within the next four months. There are no other proposals for a review of the salaries of judges and sheriffs in Scotland.
