HC Deb 21 February 1983 vol 37 c313W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Prime Minister if Her Majesty's Government will seek to ascertain the reasons why each of the 21 Falkland Islands residents who have left in the last eight months have done so.

The Prime Minister

A total of 22 Falkland Islanders left the Islands between 14 June 1982 and 31 January 1983. Of these, 11 went on retirement, 2 left to get married, one left to join the British Army and one left to seek employment in Britain. Only 2 young families left to settle in Britain and they had planned to go before the Argentine invasion. Of the remainder, one was the daughter of a man going on retirement, and the other was a husband (with son) who decided to go to Britain for personal reasons.
