HL Deb 15 February 1983 vol 439 cc215-6WA
Lord Houghton of Sowerby

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What experimental work is undertaken at the Porton Down research establishment for (a) other countries, (b) commercial organisations in the United Kingdom: and whether any animals bred in Porton Down for experimental purposes are supplied to other research establishments.

Lord Glenarthur

No experimental work is undertaken specifically for other countries at the Chemical Defence Establishment (CDE), Porton Down. A limited amount of work is undertaken for commercial organisations on repayment terms, mainly in respect of air filters. Some animals bred at CDE are supplied to other research establishments, notably in the field of public health.
