HC Deb 03 February 1983 vol 36 c150W
Mr. Winnick

asked the Prime Minister what continuing responsibilities Her Majesty's Government has for the bringing to justice of Nazi war criminals; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

Wartime and post-war agreements that provide for the arrest and bringing to judgment of Nazi war criminals remain in force. The director of Army legal services retains a residual responsibility for the prosecution of war crimes as the successor to the military deputy of the judge advocate general. In cases where the United Kingdom has jurisdiction legal machinery is available for prosecutions should evidence become available which warranted them.
