HL Deb 19 December 1983 vol 446 c580WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether any and, if so, how many South African military, police or security personnel are, or have been since May 1979, receiving training or further experience in Britain or any of its dependencies.

Baroness Young

In accordance with our policy of having no military collaboration with South Africa, no South African military, police or security personnel have since May 1979 received any training or further military experience in Britain or any of its dependencies under official auspices. However, a group of South African technicians, which included three military personnel, were trained in the United Kingdom under private, commercial arrangements for a short period in 1979. Shortly after their presence became known to the Government the three military personnel left the country.
