How many postal ballot papers were (i) issued, (ii) returned at the last general election in each of the four constituent parts of the United Kingdom, and—
- (a)in each of the respective four parts what was the percentage of returned postal ballot papers as a proportion of the electorate, and
- (b)in which United Kingdom parliamentary constituency was the—
- (i)highest percentage of postal ballot papers returned,
- (ii)lowest percentage of postal ballot papers returned.
§ Lord EltonInformation for the 1983 general election on the number of postal ballot papers issued and returned and the number of persons registered as electors in each of the four constituent parts of the United Kingdom and in each constituency is given in Table 2 and Table 4 respectively of Election Expenses (House of Commons Paper 130). The information requested for the four countries of the United Kingdom is given in the following table. The constituency with the highest number of postal ballot papers returned as a percentage of the number of persons registered as electors was Fermanagh and South Tyrone, and the constituency with the lowest was Newham South.
