§ Mr. Foulkesasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will introduce a national system of radioactive dose records to be administered by the National Radiological Protection Bureau.
§ Mr. GummerThe question of establishing a national index of dose records is under consideration in the context of the Health and Safety Commission's proposals for new ionising radiation regulations.
§ Mr. Foulkesasked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will reduce the maximum radiation dose limit from 5 rems to a target figure of 1 rem as recommended by the International Commission on Radiological Protection.
§ Mr. GummerThe International Commission on Radiological Protection has made no such recommendation. Its currently recommended whole body dose limit for workers is 5 rems per year; this has been endorsed by the National Radiological Protection Board for application in this country, and is also incorporated in the relevant European Community directive.
