§ Mr. Cowansasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what action he has taken to ensure that an adequate supply of drugs is available on Tyneside to treat all those requiring treatment in the aftermath of a nuclear attack.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeA supply of drugs for treating the casualties and survivors is one of the many matters that has to be taken into account by those who are developing plans for civil defence in the Health Service.
§ Mr. Cowansasked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) whether he is satisfied that he can adequately carry out his responsibilities to the sick and injured on Tyneside and elsewhere in the aftermath of a nuclear attack;
(2) what are the number of people on Tyneside that could be adequately treated by medical facilities in the aftermath of a nuclear attack;
(3) if he will estimate the number of people on Tyneside who, in the aftermath of a nuclear attack suffered burns, could be adequately treated.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeIt is impossible to say in advance what if any cities would be attacked by nuclear weapons or if they were how many casualties would arise. However, our responsibility is to see that plans are made to care, as far as possible, for the caualties and survivors.
