HC Deb 12 December 1983 vol 50 cc323-4W
Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will estimate the number of employees in both the Central and Fife regions, and Scotland as a whole, who were in part-time employment in 1979, and who are in part-time employment in 1983, or the latest date for which figures are available.

Mr. Allan Stewart

The information is not available in the form requested. Bur the estimated numbers of employees in part-time employment in June 1978 in Central and Fife regions are 17,500 and 21,900 respectively; no estimates subsequent to 1978 are yet available for the regions. For Scotland as a whole the estimated number in June 1978 is 371,700—313,800 female — and the provisional estimate for September 1981 is 391,500—333,000 female. For June 1979 and June 1983, estimates for Scotland are available only for females, and are 330,000 and 331,000 respectively.
