asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proportion of handicapped young people continue in post-16 full-time education.

The information requested is not available. However, in January 1983, the following proportions of pupils continued their education in special schools in England:

Ages at 31 August 1982 16 years 17 years 18 years*
Percentages of pupils in special schools staying-on over the compulsory school leaving age 27.4 14.2 12.1
* Including some 19-year-olds.
