HC Deb 12 December 1983 vol 50 cc316-7W
Mr. Jackson

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many dwellings were financed in the United Kingdom through the European Coal and Steel Community's subsidised housing scheme in 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982.

Sir George Young

I do not have the information in the form requested by my hon. Friend, but estimates for the number of dwellings financed in part by loans from the ninth programme—first instalment —of the European Coal and Steel Community housing loans scheme, which covers approximately the years 1980–82 are as follows:

Number
House purchases 584
House modernisations 685
Number
New housing for rent 37
Total 1,306

Loans under the ninth programme of the ECSC scheme are for a maximum of 20 per cent. of the value of houses bought by first-time buyers—up to a limit of £3,500—and 25 per cent. for former owner-occupiers—up to a limit of £4,500—40 per cent. of modernisation costs and about 20 per cent. of the building costs of new housing.
