HC Deb 12 December 1983 vol 50 cc319-20W
Mr. Terlezki

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many council houses and flats were sold to their tenants between May 1979 and July 1983.

Sir George Young

I refer my hon. Friend to the answer given to my hon. Friend the Member for Oxford, East (Mr. Norris) by my hon. Friend the Minister for Housing and Construction on 26 October—[Vol. 47, c. 110.] The majority of council house sales have been to sitting tenants.

Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what estimate he made in his autumn statement of the sales of council houses in (a) the United Kingdom and (b) England:; and what proportion these represents of total Department of Environment housing expenditure.

Sir George Young

Capital receipts from council house sales in England in 1984–85 are forecast to be £1,055 million, including £230 million for repayments of sums left outstanding on sales in previous years. This represents 26 per cent. of total provision for housing capital and current expenditure by English local authorities next year. Housing capital receipts and expenditure elsewhere in the United Kingdom are matters for my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Scotland.. Wales and Northern Ireland.
