§ Dr. Mawhinneyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment when the new eligible expense limits announced in the Budget statement and detailed by the Minister for Housing and Construction in the reply of 22 March, Official Report c. 402–3, will come into operation.
§ Mr. StanleyThe grants by Local Authorities (Eligible Expense Limits) Order 1983 has been laid before the House today. Subject to its approval the new limits set out in the table attached will come into effect on 20 May.
Any grant approved after the coming into effect of the order will be eligible for the increased level of eligible expense. However, where a grant has already been approved—even if work has not begun—the applicant will not be able to submit a new application to take advantage of the higher limits.
Subject to parliamentary approval the new eligible expense limits for home improvement grants which will come into operation on 20 May are set out below.
