§ Mr. Giles ShawThe increase in local authority current expenditure in England in cost terms—using the GDP deflator—between 1978–79 and 1981–82, in 1981–82 prices, is estimated to be about £1,100 million, of which about £800 million can be attributed to increases in pay in the local authority sector.
Estimates of the effect of changes in the volume of services provided are not available.
