HL Deb 27 April 1983 vol 441 cc1037-8WA
Lord Melchett

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will list the bodies in respect of which the Department of the Environment (DoE) is consulted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) or other departments when members, observers or chairmen are being appointed, and those to which the DoE appoints members direct, from among those bodies listed in Public Bodies 1982 for which MAFF is the sponsoring department, and from among those bodies listed at cols. 178–179, 12th April 1983 (except for those bodies where the DoE is itself the sponsoring department).

Lord Skelmersdale

I will answer the Question in two parts.

The Department of the Environment is consulted by—

  1. (a) the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when they are making appointments to the Forestry Commission Regional Advisory Committees which they sponsor,
  2. 1038
  3. (b) the Department of Education and Science when they are making appointments to the Natural Environment Research Council and the Advisory Board for the Research Councils which they sponsor,
  4. (c) the Lord Chancellor's Department when they are making appointments of Commons Commissioners which they sponsor.

The Department of the Environment does not appoint any members direct to bodies sponsored by MAFF or to any of the bodies listed in Hansard, cols. 178–179, 12th April 1983, except to those we sponsor.
