HL Deb 26 April 1983 vol 441 c914WA
Lord Boothby

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are aware that it is becoming increasingly difficult to buy fresh fish in this country with a consequent diminution of demand; and whether they will set up a comprehensive and authoritative committee to inquire into present methods of marketing fish, and means of expediting the transport of fish from the ports of landing to the main markets, and thence to the shops.

The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Earl Ferrers)

The marketing of fish was the subject of a report commissioned by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food from his personal advisers on marketing and presented to him in July 1981. Following on from this, the Minister has asked the Sea Fish Industry Authority to take as a major priority the preparation of a marketing strategy for the industry based on an analysis of the developments which may be needed at all stages of the production and marketing chain.
