§ Mr. Peter Bottomleyasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether his Department will continue to keep records of the numbers in receipt of unemployment benefit but not supplementary benefit who have children once the short-term child dependency addition is extinguished.
§ Mr. NewtonIf child dependency additions ceased to be payable with unemployment benefit, it would no longer be either necessary or reasonable to ask claimants to give information about their children. However, information would continue to be obtained about children in families receiving supplementary benefit, and in addition a limited amount of less specific information would be available from various household surveys.
