§ Mr. Gryllsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if the prison authorities segregate mentally disordered prisoners from other prisoners; and whether they receive special treatment.
§ Mr. MellorCare is taken to ensure that prisoners diagnosed as suffering from mental disorder within the meaning of the Mental Health Act 1959 are located within an establishment with a full-time and psychiatrically-experienced medical officer, and access to the services of a visiting consultant psychiatrist. Such prisoners are normally located in the prison hospital. Their treatment, including the extent to which they are allowed to associate with other patients, is a matter for the clinical judgment of the medical officer.
