§ Mr. MellorThe overcrowding at Her Majesty 'sur prison, Liverpool reflects the continuing pressure on the prison system generally. Conditions in the establishment will improve with the eventual completion of the phased programme of refurbishment currently being undertaken, which entails taking a wing at a time out of commission. In the meantime relief will be provided as additional places become available elsewhere through the prison building programme.

§ Mr. MellorAn inmate of Her Majesty's prison, Liverpool recently submitted a petition in which he complained of the unsatisfactory conditions brought about by overcrowding at the establishment. In addition we have received a number of representations about overcrowding in the prison system as a whole.
