§ Mr. BrittanAt close on Wednesday 27 October, the National Loans Fund had its customary working balance of £2 million. At close on 25 and 26 October however, the fund held balances of some £60 million and £50 million respectively with the banking department of the Bank of England. This is the first time that the customary working balance of £2 million has been exceeded since the Finance Act 1982.
