§ Mr. Shersbyasked the Minister for Trade what is the current tariff on British car exports to Spain; what is the comparable figure on Spanish car imports into the United Kingdom; and if he will take steps to equalise these tariffs.
§ Mr. Sproat:The Spanish tariff on cars from the European Community is 36.7 per cent. The Community tariff on Spanish cars is 4.2 per cent. Spain's accession to the Community, which is currently being negotiated, will lead to the abolition of these tariffs. Meanwhile the Government are acutely conscious of the tariff imbalance, and will neglect no opportunity of seeking to correct it.
