§ Mr. Speedasked the Secretary of State for Transport when the strategic study into the need for motorway service areas on the M25 and associated M20 and M26 motorways was begun; what conclusions it has reached; and when he intends to announce his policy for service areas for these motorways.
§ Mrs. Chalker:The strategic study of the requirement for motorway service areas on the M25 and associated motorways began in 1980. Progress with the study has been affected by other pressures on the specialist staff concerned, but I hope the study will be completed soon. I shall announce my conclusions as soon as I have been able to consider the implications of the study.
