HC Deb 21 October 1982 vol 29 c199W
Mr. Canavan

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the total amount and value of assets sold or in the process of being sold by the Forestry Commission under the Forestry Act 1981.

Mrs. Fenner:

From the passing of the Forestry Act 1981 until 21 September 1982, the Forestry Commission received £9.7 million from the sale of land and other assets. The area involved included 4,273 hectares of forestry land and plantations. At the end of September a further 36,900 hectares of forestry land and plantations with an estimated value of £20.9 million were also in the process of being sold—that is, they were either on the market or had been approved for sale and reserve prices had been fixed.

Other assets committed for sale at the end of September are expected to realise a further £4.5 million.

Area figures for other assets, which include residential properties, are not held centrally and cannot be obtained except at disproportionate cost.
