HC Deb 29 November 1982 vol 33 c66W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will make a statement on his visit to educational establishments and so on in the London borough of Newham in the week ended 12 November, including a summary of the information he received on the level of provision; and what steps he proposes to take following these visits.

Sir Keith Joseph

While my programme included visits to two secondary schools and two youth clubs, its main purpose was to have informal discussions with the authority about educational performance in Newharn. In the course of this we were able to consider a number of aspects of educational provision, including the impact of falling pupil numbers. It was agreed that I would have a further meeting with the authority next summer in order to review progress.
