§ Mr. Wallerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will introduce legislation to remove the requirement for charities for the disabled to register with local authorities under the National Assistance Act 1948 if they are registered with the Charity Commission;
(2) if he will introduce legislation to remove the requirement for local branches of charities for the disabled to register under the National Assistance Act 1948 if their national organisation is so registered;
(3) if he will introduce legislation to repeal the requirement for all charities for the disabled to register with local authorities under the National Assistance Act 1948.
§ Mr. RaisonNo. The position of charities for the disabled was among the matters considered in the light of the reports of the Expenditure and Goodman Committees and my right hon. Friend announced in January 1980 that the Government did not consider that there was a need for changes in the law. That remains our view.
§ Mr. Wallerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is satisfied with the way that local authorities are carrying out their duties as registration authorities for charities for disabled persons under the National Assistance Act 1948.
§ Mr. RaisonWe have received no complaints.
