§ Mr. Skeetasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will take steps to see that notices are removed in the Argentine base at Esperanza on Hope Bay, Antarctic Peninsula, British Quadrant, which proclaim that that region is part of the Argentine Republic.
§ Mr. OnslowUnder the terms of article IV paragraph 2 of the Antarctic treaty, British sovereignty in the Antarctic is not impugned by the notices to which my hon. Friend refers. There is therefore no requirement for us to remove them.
